Opening a Florida Community Hospital
Procurement, clinical-technology direction, and a construction-design change
An example of work completed in a previous employment role
Executive abstract
A hospital opening depends on decisions made long before patients arrive.
At a new Florida community hospital, the project lead directed procurement and clinical-technology strategy for the buildout. The work also included adapting the data-center plan when the construction design required it to move to another part of the hospital.
The setting
Clinical systems inside a new building
The hospital was a new facility in a growing community. Its technology decisions had to fit the physical design and the clinical work the building was meant to support. Construction and operational planning met at points such as equipment selection, infrastructure placement, and readiness for the opening.
Leadership work
Procurement and a changed data-center location
The project lead directed procurement and helped set the strategic direction for clinical technology. During the buildout, a construction-design issue required the data center to be moved to a different area of the hospital. The decision illustrates how technology planning for a new facility must stay connected to construction realities and clinical operations.
Questions for hospital leaders
What should be settled before the building is complete?
Who owns decisions when the construction plan and clinical-technology requirements conflict? How will changes to infrastructure placement affect procurement, installation, testing, and clinical readiness? Which leaders need to agree on the tradeoffs before work proceeds?
This paper describes work completed in previous employment roles, not a CIRRANE client engagement. It does not imply former-employer sponsorship or endorsement. The hospital is intentionally unnamed, and no outcome is claimed beyond the work described.
